Getting there
How to get to the Basilica of Saint-Denis from Paris
The Métro stop 100 metres from the door, plus the RER and tram alternatives.
Check dates on Viator ↗Métro line 13 to the door
Line 13's Basilique de Saint-Denis station is about 100 metres from the basilica. From central Paris the ride takes roughly 20 to 25 minutes. The line has two northern branches, so make sure your train is heading towards Saint-Denis–Université, the terminus one stop beyond the basilica.
No lift at that station
The Basilique de Saint-Denis Métro station has no lift. Travellers with heavy luggage, a pushchair or reduced mobility may prefer the RER D to Saint-Denis station, followed by tramway T1 (about five minutes) or a 15-minute walk. The RER B with bus 153 or 253 is another option.
Two different Saint-Denis stops
The area has more than one station: the basilica is reached from the Métro station named after it, Basilique de Saint-Denis, not from the stop that serves the nearby Stade de France, which is a separate destination entirely.
Before you set out
The necropolis closes at times for religious services, so check the monument's own website for the day's closures before you travel. Large bags are not allowed (cabin-size is the limit) and there are no lockers, and the square and the free nave are worth a look before you go further in.
